‘I didn’t want to come, I didn’t realize how much fun this was going to be!'
When your prayer space plans change and you have to reschedule there can be plenty of stress and frustration. Robyn tells us about her journey.
‘We had plans this to do an Easter prayer space in 2017 with our local school. As it turned out, the day we were due to do the prayer space we had a family event that I couldn’t miss.
Keen to reschedule our prayer space with the school, we decided to look into doing a Christmas prayer space. The school were very happy for this and with dates in the schools diary and ours we started to make plans.
The school had limited space for us to set up our prayer space so we decided to build the prayer space in our church. On the Monday, armed with our ideas and all the things we had bought, collected and made, but not quite sure how it would all fit together, we began setting up the activities. All our ideas began fitting into place and each area came to life!
With the school happy to walk the children between the buildings, we just needed dry weather on the 2 days of our prayer space. Amazingly although there was rain on the days – there was no rain at the times when the children were walking between school and church!!!
We had gathered a team of 15 people to help us run the prayer space over the 2 days. We even had a retired shepherd who volunteered to be in the shepherd’s area!!
The teachers were delighted that the areas covered so many different curriculum areas – not just RE!!
One child told us, ‘When our teacher told us we were going to church, I didn’t want to come, but I didn’t realize how much fun this was going to be!’
In Mary’s house we pegged the children’s hopes and dreams that they expressed to God on string lines across the room. Many poignant thoughts were expressed by the children – teachers looking on were amazed!
On reflection of the 2 days we are so grateful to for the many ways that we saw God working in the lives of the children, and the adults!! It was wonderful to have access to the resources on the ‘Prayer Spaces in Schools’ website for the ideas. We were also very grateful for your encouragement through e-mails and prayer support as we planned and ran our Prayer Space.
So what’s next?? Maybe 2018 will be the time for us to do an Easter Prayer Space!!’
