"Visiting Parc Eglos school was a privilege in itself so it was a very pleasant surprise to observe a group of pupils actively engaged in learning about prayer and faith. Schools are busy places and do not always lend themselves to times of quiet. The Prayer Space is clearly a place where children can take time to learn about themselves, each other and the role faith plays in modern life."Derek Thomas, MP for St Ives (Cornwall)

Life, and especially school, can be stressful. The 'outside world' is filled with people and things and events and noise and busyness. And our 'inside worlds', our minds, can be just as full and noisy and busy too. Being still isn't easy.

This activity invites students to pause and be still for a few moments. It works best as a guided narration on an MP3 player, but if there is enough space (and quiet) it can work just as well in a corner of a classroom.

Students are invited to consider what's on their minds in that moment... the people, relationships, expectations, pressures, worries. "Worry," begins the Swedish proverb, "gives small things a big shadow."

Students are invited to shake the glitter-filled Calm Jar in front of them, and then watch and wait while the glitter settles.
