‘Children Alone’ is part of the Justice Series, developed in partnership with Christian Aid.
Around the world, people have to leave their homes because of disaster, conflict or hunger, and they sometimes travel to new countries as refugees. Some refugees are children who have been separated from their parents or whose parents have been killed. The children travel alone, but where do they go? The UN estimates that more than 30% of the 57,000 refugees currently stranded in Greece are unaccompanied minors – they are alone.
Christian Aid’s partner, Apostoli, runs a shelter for unaccompanied minors in Greece. Christian Aid also fund the Greek Council for Refugees to provide legal protection services to children.
This activity invites students to read Faraidoon’s and Farzad’s story. If they want to, they can respond by writing a short welcome letter to an unaccompanied minor.
Follow-up lesson plans based around this theme are available on the Christian Aid website.
