"At the end of June, we hosted our second prayer space in a local primary school. This time we worked with about 250 children from Years 3 to 6. The day worked similarly to our previous prayer space with the infant children - we saw three classes a day, who rotated around 3 zones for an hour at a time, exploring the themes of forgiveness, asking for help and thankfulness.
The children engaged in each of the zones, responding in a variety of ways. Overall the themes seemed to encourage children to deal with some heartfelt issues and cries for help. A large amount of the prayers were about family members who have illnesses, some needing jobs and some children needing help with confidence issues. Our 'Please' zone had the new addition of our transition bridge (the teachers had requested that we cover this subject).
The children made flags about things that they were sad to leave behind and another flag of something they were looking forward to or worried about. A lot of the children were worried about new teachers, being bullied at secondary school, worried about making new friends.
We hope that the prayer spaces will have a lasting effect on the children in this school. We are planning to build on this year’s prayer theme days as we look forward to next term. Please pray for us that we will have a team of willing workers who can help facilitate this vision. May others catch the dream!"
Elinor Rew is busy. She's just finished a bunch of exams, and now she's leading a Prayer Space team from Chafford Hundred Community Church. Oh, and she's also launching a Make Lunch project too.
