Prayer Spaces in Schools are spreading throughout Oxfordshire. In January Catherine Clayton and a team from local churches in Grove hosted the first Prayer Space in a Special Education Needs (SEN) school.

“Although the time spent organising was hectic and stressful,” writes student, Grace Coughlan, “the prayer room was a complete success and fulfilled every hope.” Phil Togwell and some of the Prayer Spaces in Schools Ireland team met Grace and her friends in Antrim Grammar School recently. Here’s her report.

On Monday, as the student left the Prayspace, she pointed at the ‘forgiveness’ corner and said, with startling honesty, “Some things are just too hard to forgive.” The next day she was back, opening up a bit more, describing the unforgiveness she felt like a rock in her stomach she couldn’t shift. Last year, Alain Emerson (24-7 Prayer Ireland) met with 5 head teachers in Uganda and told them stories about Prayer Spaces in Schools in the UK and Ireland. As a result, one of the Ugandan schools built a wooden prayer room for students to use. Alain has just returned from a second visit, where he spoke with 70 head teachers. Read on for what happened.
