An increasing number of teachers and Head Teachers have begun talking about ways to develop the spiritual life of their school, following on from a Prayer Spaces week.

Some of these conversations have focused on the Christian input, and the opportunity for children and young people to experience religious activity in simple, creative ways, rather than just talking about it. Others have focused on the pastoral impact that the Prayer Space has had, where children and young people have felt that it is a safe environment to reflect on, and talk about personal issues that are affecting their school lives.

Here are a few examples of ways that schools are responding to a Prayer Space week;

  • opening a permanent prayer space in the school
  • planning an annual (or in some places) a six-monthly Prayer Space week
  • setting up a weekly chaplaincy support service
  • reviewing the pastoral structures in the school

If you've been involved in creating or developing resources to help pupils think about prayer and spirituality beyond a school prayer week, we'd love to hear about it... contact mandy@prayerspacesinschools.com and let us know what you've been doing.
