In order to get the most out of your prayer space it's important to plan in advance. Use our timeline to plan ahead.
gather initial resources from Prayer Spaces in Schools website. Read reports of Prayer Spaces in other schools
discuss idea with school stake-holders (Head Teacher, Head of RE)
propose dates
agree dates with school stake-holders, and agree main contact person. Discuss options for room/Space. Discuss any themes for the week, or for particular prayer stations
register with/contact Prayer Spaces in Schools website - check for local connections
talk with local churches, schools workers, children’s/youth workers - begin to gather support and to recruit team
agree room/Space with school contact person - visit room/Space and begin to consider possible prayer station layout. Agree any themes for the week
gather/download resources
agree on team (probably a core few for the whole week, plus some day volunteers)
decide on prayer stations and plan layout
work out budget, and who’s paying for what
agree overall plan for the week with school contact person, including lesson timetable
invite local churches to pray for the Prayer Space week
agree detailed plan for the week, including set-up and pack-down days/times
design and distribute poster-register publicity in the school (make it fun, creative)
work on any lesson plans
buy/gather all prayer station materials
training evening for whole team - go through expectations, role description, each prayer station, FAQs, etc. (We can help with training evening content, if you need it.)
final check with school contact person and all stake-holders, especially re. the lesson timetable - which classes will be coming into the Prayer Space?
continue with poster/register publicity. If possible, do assemblies on ‘creative prayer’
set up on FRIDAY before
have fun!
gather ‘stories’ throughout the week
debrief with team
debrief with school contact person - talk about ‘what next?’
write a report on the Prayer Space for all school/local stakeholders
